The Post and beam method is an ancient building technique dating as far back as Stonehenge. The post and beam style allows a lot of different styles and methods to be incorporated into the build. The North America's refer to it as Timber Frame and is often built with Douglas fir logs. Post and Beam does not have to consist only of Square timbers, requiring running the entire log through the mill. Logs can be left round on areas where no attachment is needed for example an external right angle corner post need only 2 flat sides to receive framing members with the exterior remaining round.
